Patrick Dodd and Friends: Who is Patrick Dodd?

"There is a point at which the law becomes immoral and unethical. That point is reached when it becomes a cloak for the cowardice that dares not stand up against blatant violations of justice. A state that suppresses all freedom of speech, and which by imposing the most terrible punishments, treats each and every attempt at criticism, however morally justified, and every suggestion for improvement as plotting to high treason, is a state that breaks an unwritten law." --Kurt Huber [The head of White Rose], killed by the Nazis in 1943

“A prophet and a picker", Patrick Dodd provides us with “well-crafted music of relevance in these critical times”. (U.Utah Phillips) At a time when most artists shy away from politics or controversial topics aiming their work at mainstream radio Patrick Dodd, and a handful of artist like him thrive on telling truth to power. His eclectic style, allows him to move from folk/ballads to rock to experimental music on the same C.D. Patrick Dodd has sliced a path of musical resistance across two decades of American music and history. But as difficult to categorize as his music is, even a cursory listen to Patrick’s work (most of which is available on the web in the form of his epic “Crime Cycle”, a collection of six C.D.‘s spanning two decades of our often hidden history, the peoples‘ history), you find a common theme binding each work to the whole - "social justice". Patrick has been inspired by, and taken his music to the people, from forest defense camps to homeless camps, from living rooms to churches, from coffee houses to festivals, Patrick’s music has helped inspire and empower. Robert Wolfe at the time the music critic for the Eugene Oregon Weekly said, “Patrick has spread the word from the rickety stages of the ongoing revolution”. Poverty, war, racism, sexism, environmental destruction, have all at one time or another been sliced and diced by his call for justice. (work in progress no complete)
