The result of a backroom, sweetheart deal with the logging industry, the Bureau of Land Management (B.L.M.) is planning to sacrifice 2.6 million acres of currently protected public forestlands in western Oregon to the chainsaw and log truck. The Western Oregon Plan Revision or W.O.P.R. would gut the (already weak) Northwest Forest Plan and open our native forests to 700% more roadbuilding and clearcutting -- at the expense of clean air and drinking water, carbon storage to combat climate change, endangered species and economy-boosting recreation.
